Apollo 13 Image series and exhibition design
This brief revolved around depicting the Apollo 13 story. It required the use of design to represent the themes and plot of the story.
This project had three parts. The first stage involved research and the composition of a written interpretation of the story. This written piece was used to inform the second stage and in the third stage.
The second stage of the brief was to create a series of six images that visually represented the stories themes and key elements. The brief stipulated that there should be two portraits, landscapes and still lifes in the set of six.
The third stage was to create the beginnings of an exhibition design, using the copy written in stage one and the images created in stage two. There were three main deliverables, a publication of the written content, 3D illustration of the exhibition entry and build out of memorabilia and advertising for the event.
Exhibition Elements
Exhibition ticket, advertising, primary poster, secondary poster, Gift shop bag, Gift shop mug
Exhibition Publication (Featuring Original Text)
One of the deliverables in the third stage of the brief was the design of a publication that highlights the story of the Apollo 13 mission. The design uses one of the portrait illustrations developed in the first stage of the project with the Logo to create the dynamic cover design. Then all of the other images were used to create pacing through the remaining pages of the document.
The text I composed as part of initial stages of the research, which tells the story of the Apollo 13 mission, was used to flesh out the exhibition publication. The documents structure can be seen across the below images.
Exhibition Design
As well as creating the design of physical assets - The brief asked me to visualise how the imagery and styles used could translate into a 3D environment.
